Tough Life, but with a View
Settlers cabin in the Bishop California area. Cannot imagine what it was like to live there, but I can understand why they tried.
Winter Aspen on Mt. Rose
I think aspen are one of my favorite trees. They are beautiful in all stages of their life and all seasons of the year. This group of aspen were photographed on Mt. Rose Highway on the way to Lake Tahoe in early winter. The soft early morning light created an amazing contrast of the white of the aspen trees and the dark pines that were creating the backdrop.
Old Snag in Olympic Valley
The Sierra produces some of the most interesting cloud formations. This old snag on the Shirley Lakes Trail in Olympic Valley stand in contrast to the flowing clouds above.
Sun over the Playa
The Black Rock Desert in Northern Nevada is one of the most desolate places I have ever been - Miles of flat cracked playa in the summer and almost a shallow lake of wet mud in the winter. But, once a year an entire city is built there for a week.
Fire Burnt
This stump stands along a fire road above Hope Valley South of Lake Tahoe. The scare shows the results of an old fire that probably killed the tree.
Lower Yosemite Falls
This is a classic shot of the lower Yosemite Falls taken from the bride. The power of this falls is felt by the mist, wind and sound that is created as the water cascades off this final ledge as it enters Yosemite Valley. There is enough force to push mist and wind down to where I am composing the shot, enough to make me have to wipe down the lens between shots.
Miller Lake
This is a small lake that sits off of the Rubicon Trail west of Lake Tahoe. I love all the small alpine lakes that are throughout the Sierra. It is nice that there is always enough of them so you can find some piece and quite by one.
